Chapter Strategic Planning for 2021

The ICF Vancouver Island Board of Directors met in January for a strategic planning and team building session. Our Vice President, Johanna Stiver, led the team in an inspiring Social Presencing Theatre exercise as we organically listening into the emergent future of our community to co-create a theme for the year. We sensed into images of expansiveness, sowing seeds, diversity, a blooming garden, individual selves coming together into a bigger whole, a tapestry of different coloured threads in bright collaboration and playfulness. From there, we distilled the theme into: A Tapestry of a Blossoming Garden.

In our strategic planning, we discussed how to showcase and reveal the wisdom and diversity in our chapter to:

  • benefit our members
  • raise member’s profiles, and
  • to connect, grow and thrive as individuals and as a community.

Connecting and Learning Together Through the Challenges

We are acutely aware that we are working in a uniquely challenging context as Vancouver Island and the world continues to grapple with the impact of COVID-19. This year, we will continue to offer virtual training and opportunities for us to connect, as a coaching community, and with potential clients. The Board looks forward to exploring with you what we have learned from the experience of COVID-19 and to hearing your ideas for how it might reshape how we connect, learn, grow and thrive together as coaches and support our clients as we navigate these unprecedented times.

I’m honoured to writing this message to you as the President of ICF Vancouver Island. I put my name forward for this opportunity because I have a deep belief in the value and impact of coaching in our communities. I look forward to serving you and our community in the coming year.

President’s Message: Update On The Work Your Chapter Volunteers Are Doing For You

President's Message: Wow! 12 Events in 4.5 Months!

Hello Members,

The volunteer board of directors and committees have been working very hard on your behalf to ensure we are living up to our commitment of focusing on ensuring we “THRIVE”.  Everyone is concentrating on supporting you and each other to ensure we are serving you and fulfilling your needs.

Alison, our Events Director, has organized 12 events so far this year!
To help create a successful program this year, Alison has spent time reviewing Eventbrite to ensure everyone is getting the event communications and she has been assessing the best time and dates to have events.

  • We kicked off the year on January 29th with Conversations On Ethics In Our Profession – Series 1 of 6 with Lily Seto, Mary Prefontaine and Janet Sheppard who then facilitated Part 2 of series in March.
  • February 12th there was Part 4 of the Cross Canada Coaching Series – Managing Progress and Accountability with Part 5 concluding in March.
  • February 13 Lynn hosted a North Island Coach Connection.
  • March 4th Beth organized the Mid Island Coaches Social Meet-up in Duncan.
  • March 12th we had the South Island Coaches Social Meeting in Victoria.
  • March 16th Beth Page and Sarah Evans facilitated Resilience for Coaches in Victoria and led the workshop again in Duncan on March 30th.
  • April 13th saw us up in beautiful Maple Bay for a Mid Island Social Barbecue.
  • This past Saturday we had The Missing Piece in the Coaching Industry with Betska K-Burr, The Guru Coach to kick off ICW.
  • Monday, we had The Field Guide to Emotions with Dan Newby and Curtis Watkins.

Visit the Events page on the VI Coaches website  for more upcoming events happening in May. Stay tuned for a special announcement about our Chapter’s partnership with World Business and Executive Coach Summit 2019 (WBECS) and also news about the upcoming visit and presentation from ICF Global’s Sara Smith in June.

Tamara, our Membership Director, has been focused on connecting with as many members as possible by phone, email, surveys and one on on. She is eager to understand your needs and what would have feel engaged as a Chapter member. She has been working hard with Delaney from our communications committee to ensure that everyone is getting our chapter messages.

Mike, Beth, Kieran, Lynn, Tania and Florie have planned a great International Coaching Week to promote coaching into our communities.

John keeps us in check with our finances and Maria is tracking all our needs.

I want to thank Delaney for supporting communications. Without her we would be lost.

I am so blessed and grateful to have such an amazing group of people to work with.

Hatley Castle at Royal Roads University was the perfect location to embody the holiday spirit and the regal feeling that comes with rich coaching connections. The food was plentiful as was a community presence that resulted in donations for the Mustard Seed. The generosity continued with the offering of door prizes from many of the outgoing Board of Directors in the way of coaching sessions.

Our warm gratitude extends to Royal Roads University for helping us to make the AGM + Holiday Brunch a connective success! In particular, we appreciate the special efforts of Annette Siewertsen, of Royal Roads, who continuously goes above and beyond to support our local ICF Charter Chapter. Thank you, Annette.
More gratitude to share (because we can never be too thankful).
You will see from the photographs that the outgoing Events Director, Mary Prefontaine, has a gift for planning and an eye for details that results in creating magical convening spaces! Thank you, Mary. Tracey Burns, outgoing President, added to the day by facilitating the AGM with ease, leadership and grace. All the outgoing Board of Directors (see names above) contributed in making the day a success (from making proxy calls, reviewing policies and supporting the behind the scenes work). We offer a fond thank you to Lily Seto, outgoing Past President, who has served on the VI ICF Board of Directors for many years. Your wisdom and dedication are deeply appreciated and have made a lasting impact on our Chapter.
Finally, we extend our thanks to YOU! We are grateful for all the Vancouver Island Coaches who continue to enrich and co-create our vibrant and engaged coaching community.
We look forward to cheering on the new Board of Directors as they blaze their path over the coming year!
